So I have never actually been here, but I had a friend bring me a couple donuts from here. Holy yum. They were delicious and HUGE! I have a thing for fancy donuts with fun toppings, and these were great. I can't wait to go to their store next time I am in Red Wing and get something for myself and oogle at their selection.

I visited a LOT of places during my trip to Red Wing, and this was my favorite. I didn't try their (apparently famous) donuts because I didn't know they were special. I did order a frozen coffee drink and was happy to see that they offer multiple milk alternatives (soy and almond). I ordered a frozen mocha. The espresso shots per perfect, with a deep rich flavor without being burnt. The chocolate was smooth and not chalky at all. I ordered several drinks, to take some back to coworkers, and the barista didn't write anything down, so I had to reiterate the order for each drink. That was annoying, but overall a good experience.

Needed breakfast and goodies on a blazing hot morning after a night at Treasure Island so we headed to nearby Red Wing. We were too full from eating at Bev's to enjoy our donuts right away, but we stopped at Hanisch's for their much-lauded baked goods and had them later. For lunch. The bakery counter area is tight and the place was packed with Saturday morning folks. Some you could tell were regulars - they knew just what they wanted and said so. The rest of us out of towners hemmed and hawed and dawdled but the employees were nice and patient with us. We went pretty traditional... some sprinkles, a glazed twist and a maple glazed cinnamon, but I also had to try the maple donut with bacon for kicks. It was all good and even held up well on our sweltering drive back to the south metro. Fresh, airy and with good toppings. The maple bacon was good, though I realized too late I just don't love cold bacon. But very good!

We have been to this place twice now, and we are calling it "home" I meant to do a review the first time, but didn't start yelping until after my first visit. I have to say, I don understand how ANYONE can say that this place doesn't have flavor?! Hanisch IS flavor!!!!! We got Apple fritters which won't be pictured because we devoured them almost before we left the parking lot, LOL!!! We also had glazed twisted donuts which were are not pictured either haha!!! We had to eat these fast because the glaze started to melt even walking 5 minutes back to the car....no seriously, that's the truth!!!!!! Anyways, we also got a maple bacon donut, which is AMAZING!!! We also bought a long donut with chocolate and peanuts on top, also very good!!! We both agreed that the Apple fritters were our favorite. I can't describe how good they are without smiling from ear to ear, and soaking my clothes in drool because I want another one, NOW!!! Please!!!! Please!!!! Please!!!!!! If you haven't tried Hanisch Bakery in downtown Redwing, MN...Please go there!!!! I highly recommend this place to everyone!!! For the ones who say they lack flavor, I just don't have the words for you. They also have amazing breads, and creatively decorated cookies, cakes, and pies. Please go there!!!!! Go there now!!!!=......I'll send you my address and you can ship me some j/k....not really LOL!!!

After a week at Sturgis 75 we visited Red Wing for 3 days to visit family and we ate two mornings breakfasts' at Hanisch Bakery! Oh My Gosh! The Espresso drinks are perfect and the fresh doughnuts are amazing! The ladies behind the counter in the bakery are so friendly! The cake donuts were so moist and tasty. My favorite was the Peanut Butter Cup Chocolate Cake Donut!!! We'll be back next time we're in town...it's an addiction!

Well, I came in during my lunch break from the American Queen (literally, right now) and I wanted to try some of those fancy looking donuts (from the photos), but they didn't seem to have any in stock. Nothing really looked very interesting, so I didn't try anything. I can't comment on the donuts, but I can say that nothing caught my eye (which is the opposite of what usually happens when I go to a donut shop). Hopefully next time we pull in, there will be something I want to try.

not a donuts or cookies fan, so my eval here might be a bit under-rated... almost always have their BBQ sandwich for lunch when there, which is fairly decent, although a tad spendy. Since i keep finding myself going back, you can say that i really have nothing to complain about.

My wife likes the donuts here, and that is pretty much the only reason I bother with this place. It's usually pretty busy here, and there is no "line"; you just have to push your way to the counter and get the attention of one of the employees. On top of that, the donuts are not labeled with prices or names, which I find annoying. The employees seem a bit put off if you ask, so I don't bother. This past Saturday, my wife wanted donuts for breakfast, and was in the mood to spend money, so we went in. The girl that helped us was most unfriendly- she seemed to wish that she was someplace else. So did I, after she started helping us. She started by giving me the wrong kind of donuts. I should have been watching her more closely, as they had shorted me a couple of donuts a week or so before, but I was busy selecting more donuts. There was quite a throng of people there, and I was under a lot of pressure to hurry. My wife also chose some small hamburger buns. After we left, I saw that we were charged $6 for a dozen little slider buns that would have been $2 or $2.50 at a grocery store. They were marked $4.80 on the package, which is still ridiculous. No, I didn't go back and demand my $1.20. I just didn't feel like fighting the crowds or the surly teenage girls behind the counter. I'm sure I'll even go back to buy donuts, but only if my wife drags me against my will.

Had the WORST experience here yesterday at a wedding cake tasting...that never happened. Had an appointment for a tasting booked for 4 months with numerous e-mail confirmations with the owner. Drove an hour to get there only to be told the owner was not there. Over 30 minutes later the staff finally got ahold of her and we were told she didn't know about our appointment because it WASN'T IN HER HANDWRITING in the appointment book. Are you kidding! No apology...no offer to try and make it up to us...didn't even call or e-mail herself to tell us, made her young staff do it for her. Needless to say, we left with nothing and will never be going back. I would give ZERO stars (if I could) for service...not sure about quality because we never got to try it!

Waaaaay overpriced and no flavor. There are people who really love the cookies/donuts here and I just cannot figure it out. Is it because it's the only place in town? Is it because people grew up on this? Is it because it's a hometown pride thing? I am just stumped. I kept thinking when people would bring donuts to work the flavor might get better...maybe I had a bad one, or two... every time I tried the donuts cookies or Panini's during lunch meetings I was disappointed. I even had my boyfriend try them when he came to town to visit me. I said, "I am taking you to the best bakery in town!" And he said, "yeah i read about it in the paper, it won some awards!" He was jazzed. Very excited to go. Without telling him my opinion, we sat down to eat our cookies and after his first bite he said, "You're kidding.... this is awful" and he started laughing! He also cannot believe this place wins awards. I give up. He gives up. We don't understand. I am embarrassed to say I prefer caribous baked items better. Because Hanisch has such a following I will probably be hunted down by the mob. But seriously, I don't get it.... I feel bad that I don't get it. But i truly think it is all terrible.

This is such a great gem in Red Wing! Great doughnuts for breakfast and a spectacular lunch spread. Different specials every day - including different homemade soups and hot-dish!

Great place to eat. Food was delicious. Decently priced. Bit noisy, but the crowd told us that it was the place to be come breakfast time

Awesome selection of donuts and the place is huge. I would say you need to check out this place. And did I say a wide variety of freakin donuts.

Hanisch Bakery is one of those great small town bakeries that I go out of way to visit. Usually an excellent selection, although some things go fast. Soup at lunch is a fall favorite in the beautiful city of Red Wing.

This place wow!!!! I cannot believe how great all the food is. And the treats are on point. Like there really is no other place like this. It's a all in one place. You can get ur lunch then get your treats. The people here are all really friendly. And do everything with a smile. They have great sandwiches and their treats and donuts. Everything is really fresh. I would totally recommend this place.

Delish!!! We stopped for a quick snack while visiting Red Wing. We shared a pumpkin donut and a caramel apple donut - both were fantastic. There were so many other yummy-looking treats that it was hard for me to walk away without grabbing just one more treat. We also grabbed a Limpa bread to take home, which was a sweet, soft rye bread. Within 24 hours, we had happily devoured half of it.

Suggestion: if all of the blueberry donuts are gone every single friday before 7:00 AM MAKE MORE. Maybe try two days of blueberry? Double the batch on Friday? Very frustrating.

Can't believe this gem of a place has only been reviewed twice and the first just over a month ago. I grabbed a egg sandwich to go. My choice of bread? Buttermilk biscuit. For $3.50, I get a generous fresh egg sandwich w/bacon and a side of fruit. What a bargain. Next door in the bakery everything looks delicious. I end up getting the cake donut with maple frosting and bacon on it. Trust me, I was skeptical but it rocked my world. I would definitely get it again. I had also been asking about the Sturdiwheat Buckwheat Pancake mix you could take home. I love the stuff from the Breadsmith so I thought, why not. As I'm paying, the guy in front of me says "You're really gonna like that. I'm the production manager and it's probably my favorite". Well who is gonna argue that? Not me. Because it is election time, they had a couple of sugar cookies, one with Tom's name and the other with John's. More of Tom's had been sold when I was in there but there is still another month left. Seriously. What a great place.

Wonderful Bakery that I am sure brightens up downtown Red Wing. Small town big bakery.

Interesting decor, some things were classic cool, some of the decor was just classic. I got a mocha latte- it was good. We also got some donuts from the bakery. They have a great bakery with some grumpy staff. I tried the bacon donut because when is the next time I will have a chance to try that - it wasn't good but everything else was.

For sheer variety of donuts, 1000 stars. I had the maple and bacon, because it's hard to resist. That and they have a free espresso drink checkin offer, which is kinda awesome. I've eaten lunch here and its nothing to remember.

The place is actually called Hanish Bakery now. When we go back to visit my boyfriends hometown of Red Wing we go every morning (or almost every morning) and get some yummy bakery item. They have the freshest bakery items I've had in a very long time. I even try to get one to take home just in-case we don't make it the following morning I'll still have a special treat! My boyfriend always gets the cinnamon twist donuts and I always try something new and I am NEVER disappointed! Everyone does a wonderful job! A++

This place has a big notice out front claiming it's Minnesota's #1 bakery. Well, we can't really make that kind of comparison, but we just had to check it out anyway. After sandwiches and doughnuts that are so addictive they should be regulated, I'm inclined to say that either Hanisch's is #1 or they set the bar pretty damn high for whichever place is #1.

My review is for their yummy baked goods, the Maple Glazed Bacon Donut was oddly addicting! All of their breads and cookies looked quite tempting. The latte was one of the best I've had and steaming hot...perfect for a drizzly spring day.

We were just visiting Red Wing for the first time for a birthday ski trip for my son. We needed a small birthday cake for my son's big day. The ladies at the shop were beyond helpful! We got a just what we wanted and it was fantastic. We wished later we hadn't gotten one so small. When the ladies found out it was my son's birthday, they threw in two pieces of fudge for him and said to tell him "Happy Birthday from us". They even helped us find the other stores we needed for balloons, cards and more. Whether you are new to the area or permanent residents, we highly recommend the fantastic food and the classic Midwestern hospitality we found here at Hanish!

Okay, granted, I'm not the only cranky one in the early morning. Still, they could say "thanks".

I have nothing but wonderful things to say about this business. The people working there have always been beyond helpful and courteous. Even when the place is packed, and that is always, they are kind and patient. I send out their magical delights to friends across the country. Hanisch Bakery is a fantastic place to buy all of your baked goods, whether you live in the area or you are on vacation. Make sure to put this place on your destinations to try!

Amazing!!! They have this Cranberry/Nut bread that will bring tears to your eyes, it's so good! While I was there, one of their Maple-glazed-Bacon donuts beckoned, so I ate it and was glad I did, although I will not be making it one of part of my daily food regimen, but it was also amazing!! Will come back next time and sit down and have one of their sandwiches or lunch specials.

Hanisch Bakery & Coffee Shop is a diamond in the rough in downtown Red Wing. On one side is the delicious bakery and on the other is the cafe. Hubby and I had the BEST lunch here yesterday. We ordered our food through a short cafeteria line and then waited in one of the cozy booths in the small cafe. Minutes later our plates of goodness arrived, our panini sandwiches still in their aluminum wrappers and piping hot. Portion sizes were so big, each half of our sandwiches were a meal in themselves! Wonderful Tuna Melt for me and Smoked Turkey & Chipotle panini for hubby...I could hardly put my sandwich down. But I had to in order to make room for my sinfully rich Tutti Frutti Cake. This beautiful individual dessert is like one of the fancy pastries you would find in a Byerly's bakery case, but oh so much better. The cake had layers of raspberry and lemon filling, was surrounded by a luscious buttercream frosting, and the whole thing was dipped in almonds with a cherry on top. Incredible. And what's even more amazing is that this is just one of dozens of homemade desserts in the bakery case, from cookies to bars to eclairs to cakes. I just wish we had a Hanisch Bakery in the Twin Cities. I will definitely be back next time I swing through Red Wing.
